In total there were seven schools, across three pitches. We played six games; we won four, drew one and lost one.  Birchwood was the highest scoring team so we secured a place in the final match against Warton Primary School. After an extremely close match, Birchwood beat them by half a rounder, securing a place in the next round in two weeks time.

All children played with passion, teamwork and spirit and were praised for their sportsmanship. We wish them all good luck at this event and look forward to finding out how they have got on.

Thank you to everyone who came to support us at the event.

The Year 6 Netball Team played in a High 5 Tournament at the Polesworth School on Wednesday. They won two games, drew a game and lost two games. They narrowly missed out on a place in the Semi Finals due to another school having a slightly higher goal difference. The heavy rain didn’t dampen the team’s mood and staff from other schools commented on how well they played and how well mannered they were. Yet again another sports team who were a credit to Birchwood!

The Year 2 Football Team played in the Ricketts Shield Tournament yesterday afternoon. They played really well and won 2 out of their 3 games. The top team from each group made it through to the semi finals along with the highest scoring second team. Unfortunately Birchwood were one goal off making it through. The boys were a credit to the school and had a brilliant time even with the torrential rain!

On Tuesday 19th, our Year 4 Boys Football team took part in the Kirkpatrick Challenge Cup held at Twycross. The team played brilliantly winning all of their league games, scoring 14 goals without conceding any.

After a tight semi-final win, the boys secured victory with a 6-0 win in the final. They also took part in the regional finals on Thursday 21st at the AT7 centre in Coventry. They played 5 very strong teams and managed to win 3 of their games, finishing 3rd overall out of the league of 6 area winning schools.

A fantastic team performance from all, well done!

On Wednesday, Birchwood took part in a Swimming Gala. The team won six out of the eight relay races. Four children won first place medals in their individual races and came home with medals. This was the first of three galas so we wait to see if we progress to the next round.

Well done to all the swimmers they were a real credit to Birchwood!

On Thursday 7th March, Lewis and Bobbie represented North Warwickshire in the Inter District race at Warton Primary School. Both children ran really well and were in the top 40, so gained a place to run in the Northern Area Primary Cross Country Trials at The Pingles in Nuneaton. That race took place on Wednesday 13th March, the first 20 finishers were then selected for the Northern Area Team.

Well done to Lewis who came 5th and will now go on to run in the Warwickshire Primary Cross Country Championships at Moreton Morrell Agriculture College on Saturday.

Good luck from everyone at Birchwood Primary Lewis!

On Thursday 14th February, Birchwood took part in the third leg of the North Warwickshire Cross Country Competition. The final race was at Warton Nethersole’s Primary School – it was a tough course! Despite this Birchwood ran amazingly. The boys team came third overall and the girls team came second overall.

We are very proud of all the runners and the effort they have put in coming to practises twice a week. A special mention goes to Lewis (Yr 6) who came fifth and Bobbie (Yr 5) who came eighth in this final race. Both of these children have got through to the Inter District Race next week where they will be representing North Warwickshire, good luck to both of them.

Please note: Practises will continue on a Wednesday and Thursday morning until Thursday 7th March. Year 3/4 cross country practises start on Wednesday 6th March

Well done to our Year 6 Dodgeball Team for taking part in a competition against five local schools.  After a valiant effort over six games, with the team improving their ducking, dipping, diving and dodging each time, Birchwood came a respectable fourth (very close to third place) out of seven teams.

Congratulations and good luck to Warton Orton A team, Dordon Primary and Water Orton B team who came first, second and third respectively on getting through to the Final.

Some of Year 2 had fun taking part in a football tournament.  The children did very well and played exceptionally together as a team.! Mr Bright was excellent with them as well.

"On Thursday 19th April, Mr Hammesley took some year 4 and 5 children to a football tournament in Baddesley Ensor.  We got to represent the school while having fun.  We played fairly well and got into the semi finals," Sebastian - Year 4.

"On Wednesday we took part in a Swimming Gala; we faced tough competition from Outwoods Primary, Water Orton Primary and Warton Nethersole.  With a choice of four swimming strokes available (freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke or butterfly)  our nerves were on edge and the anticipation was high.

We had lots of 2nd places, and one 1st!  Well done to everyone who took part" Hope and Mollie - Year 6

Well done to all our sports teams from previous years.  You have done yourself and Birchwood proud and made some fantastic memories!

Year 5 and 6 were wonderfully behaved at the the football tournament yesterday. They showed fantastic effort throughout and represented Birchwood well. Unfortunately, they didn't make it through the group phase, winning 2 out of 5 of their matches.
