Welcome to the Birchwood Sports Teams!

15 of our fast and fantastic Year 2’s competed in a cross country competition on Tuesday of this week. We’re awaiting the final results of the team’s joint efforts in the race but their determination and confidence proved they all possess winning qualities.

A special mention goes to Grace, Jacob and Jenson, who all finished in the top 10, with many of our other races not far behind. Well done to all who attended.
Congratulations to the Year 4 tennis team who won the tennis tournament last week and have got through to the finals next week. We are all very proud of you and look forward to finding out how you get on, good luck!
Last week members of Year 6 represented Birchwood Primary School in a local netball competition. Whilst competing against seven other schools, they demonstrated great teamwork, perseverance and adaptability.  Despite the chilly, damp weather, the children remain focused on the game and continued to play with a smile on their faces.  After an hour and a half of play, the children finished second in Pool B of the competition. Well done to everyone who took part.
The Oakfield Football Tournament

Last week, we played in the Oakfield football tournament. We came fourth place overall, with three draws, one win and one loss. We all tried our hardest and kept going.
We represented Birchwood by being awarded the consideration trophy. These were the top goal scorers: Taylor, Jackson, Billy and Teddy. Everybody else worked well as a team to defend the goal.

Well, what a cross country season we have had and the results are in!

The year 3/4 girls team won the large schools competition, the year 3/4 boys team also won the large schools competition and therefore Birchwood were the year 3/4 overall winners.

Not just that, Indie was the first place individual winner and both Jenson and Maddison were the third place individual winners.

As well as that, year 5/6 girls and boys teams were the overall winners in the large schools competition.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate every single one of the cross country runners who all contributed to us gaining this excellent result. The trophies have now taken pride of place in our trophy cabinet in the entrance foyer, please come and take a look.

On Tuesday, two teams of children represented Birchwood in the Kirkpatrick Football Cup at Twycross House School. During the tournament, each team played five matches. Both teams played brilliantly, with Birchwood 'A' team winning two matches, drawing two matches and losing one match and Birchwood 'B' team winning all of their matches. Overall, Birchwood 'B' came first and Birchwood 'A' came third. Well done, to all of the children. Each and every player showed great sportsmanship and supported their team mates amazingly.

Cross country news.  On Wednesday 28th February, 19 children from Birchwood represented North Warwickshire in the Inter District Cross Country race against teams from Bedworth and Nuneaton. Even though it was wet and the course was slippery, which made it quite challenging, the children continued to show resilience and determination. Well done to Indie, Maddison, Nathan and Jenson who all came home with a medal.

It is such a pleasure to see their commitment and dedication to Cross Country and I am pleased to let you know that 12 of the children have now been selected to represent  The Northern Area in the Warwickshire Primary Cross Country Championships on Saturday 9th March. We are so very proud of each and every one of our cross country runners.

Sports Kits
Please can I remind you that any sports kits worn for sporting events must come back to school, clean and dry, as soon as possible after the event as we need them for future competitions. If you still have any kits, could they please be returned to school. Thank you.
On Wednesday, the cross country team took part in the fifth and final cross country race, it was a wet one, and many of the children came back covered in mud! The children continued to show great resilience and never gave up. We continue to be so proud of the dedication the children are showing towards cross country, with lots of them continuing to beat their personal bests. The teams continue to do really well, and a special well done to Indie, Maddison and Jenson for coming home with medals.
