The children have opened their winter books gifted by Friends of Birchwood PTA and chosen by our teaching staff.
Here are a few comments from the children …
Tova said, ‘Thank you Team Birchwood” and Theodore added, ‘These books are great.’
Our parent/teacher association kindly donated the funds to buy all our children a winter book each and we think our smiles tell a story of how happy we are with them!
Children from across school have been hard at work for the last few weeks creating their own festive sock snowmen as part of their sessions with Mrs Collington. Grey in Larch 2 added to the original design and created the hat, and all children have made their snowmen as unique as they are by adding their own decorations and outfits. We think they look great, and as you can see the children had a great time making and deciding how to display them.
Christmas is a busy time for all, not least for those who are involved in schools. This week our Reception children performed their first ever Christmas Nativity performance to parents on Thursday afternoon and on Friday it was the turn of Year 1 and 2. Next week we have two more performances, Year 3 and 4 on Monday and Year 5 and 6 on Tuesday.
This week we have also enjoyed our visit from Chaplin’s Panto Company. The Lower School children were treated to a traditional fun-filled performance of Goldilocks on Tuesday and our Upper School children enjoyed a very entertaining performance of Aladdin.
Christmas time in school can be difficult as we try to juggle the teaching and learning demands of our school curriculum with Christmas related activities and learning. Apart from rehearsal time and time out to watch our pantomimes, we continue to work through our planned school curriculum. Wednesday 14th December is the first day that we come off our normal timetable. It is only then that we put some time aside to create cards, calendars, decorations and if time, watch a Christmas movie. Christmas crafts and toy morning on Friday, is a really important time for children in school. They get the chance to relax, enjoy each other’s company and start to get even more excited about breaking up for the holidays.
Last week the children really enjoyed making their Christmas products and games for our Christmas Fair. Team Birchwood have informed us that they raised £3591 which is a fantastic effort. Thank you to them for all their hard work and for their organisation. A big thank you to all our parents for your donations and to all our children and their families who came and supported this event.
Team Birchwood are again showing their thanks to staff and children by buying and presenting them all with a new book for the winter holidays. Our winter books have been carefully selected by class teachers and will be handed out on Monday as an early Christmas present. It will be great to have some time off over the holidays reading a good children’s book. I look forward to finding out what everyone thought of their new book, when we return in January.
Our teachers, teaching assistants, office staff, Governors, PTA and volunteers deserve recognition and our gratitude for their efforts again this term. Birchwood Primary School is very lucky to have such dedicated and talented staff who constantly go above and beyond for all the children in our school.
I would like to take the opportunity to wish you all, on behalf of all the children, staff and Governors of Birchwood Primary School, a very Merry Christmas and a relaxing and prosperous New Year.
Mr Coleman
