James Campbell Author Visit

James Campbell Author Visit - November 2022

This year one of our school priorities is to develop a reading culture across school where children show a love and understanding of reading for pleasure.

To support our work on this, we were extremely lucky to welcome author, storyteller and comedian, James Campbell, into school on the afternoon of Wednesday 23rd November 2022. James conducted two workshops across the afternoon, one with EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 focusing on stories and joining in. He then spoke with years 3, 4, 5 and 6 about the importance of laughter through stories as well as exploring the process of writing.

Children and staff across school all thoroughly enjoyed their sessions with James, commenting on the laughter that could be heard through school and the buzz it generated.

James then set up in our school library, selling signed copies of his books. We were blown away by the response and amount of children and parents that queued for up to an hour to meet James again, purchase a book and have it signed.
Children in Year 2 said the following about the visit:

Chloe said “The umbrella story was so funny.”

Erin said “He read his stories with prosody.”

Edward commented “He makes me want to write more.”
These were some of the comments shared with James during his book sale.

"I want to write stories when I'm older. I have already wrote one and it was published in a book. I have asked for a typewriter for Christmas so that I can be a proper author." - Freya

"You were so funny reading your stories, they made me laugh so much, especially the ones about the teachers." - Theodore
