Autumn 2

Anglo-Saxons

It's beginning to look like Christmas in Pine 4. This week, we have designed and made a Micro:bit Christmas tree decoration. Each of our Micro:bits have a festive pattern that flashes on and  off and a Christmas message that we programmed into them.

A huge well done to Teak 5, Pine 4 and Maple 3 classes for their brilliant performance in our Christmas production, ‘Twas the night before Christmas’.  You all worked so hard, and your enthusiasm shone through every moment.

Thank you for filling the room with Christmas cheer!

Pine 4 enjoyed creating gingerbread to sell at our Birchwood Christmas Fair. They used their weighing, mixing, rolling and cutting skills to create the delicious treats.

Year 4 had a great time being creative with our resident artist, Darrell Wakelam. They created an image from Varjak Paw, a book that we will read later in the year.

Pine 4 had a fantastic time at Polesworth library this week. We enjoyed looking through the range of books available, picking out a book to borrow, reading books and chatting to friends about the books. We particularly enjoyed looking through the Christmas books. The staff at the library were very impressed with our excellent manners and how polite we were. Well done, Pine 4!

Autumn 1

Roman Britain

During their art project, Pine 4 took inspiration from the Spanish architect and designer Antoni Gaudi when creating their own nature themed collages

As part of their first Design Technology project, Pine tested out their cookery skills by creating a delicious chicken and vegetable pie. They peeled, mashed, boiled and chopped using the bridge and claw technique

Year 4 have been working hard to master counterbalances in gymnastics. We have worked in partners to create the stable and balanced shapes.

Pine 4 have really enjoyed their Science topic ‘electricity’. They constructed a range of simple series circuits, investigated common electrical conductors and insulators and ‘debugged’ circuits to make them work.
Pine 4 visited Birchwood’s Roman Museum where they were able to explore a range of real ancient Roman artefacts. These included fragments of various ancient pots, Roman coins, an oil lamp, key and iron stylus. By observing these artefacts, they were able to make predictions about what ancient Roman life may have been like.
After receiving a letter from ‘Julius Caesar’, inviting them to join his army of warriors, Pine 4 started off their training by attending a Roman Bootcamp. They took part in a series of activities such as long-distance jumping, marching distances, spear throwing and Trigon training to build their strength and perfect their skills.
They later perfected some of their fighting skills by practising getting into battle formations such as the ‘Orb’, ‘Wedge’ and ‘Testudo’.
