Take One Author : Michael Morpurgo
Pine class have been learning about using 4 figure grid references to locate places on an OS map and also about the symbols that they may see when using a map.
To celebrate World Book Day, we dressed up as our favourite book characters. We took part in ‘The Great Big World Book Day Footy and Booky Quiz 2026, an online event by ‘Football School’ authors Ben Lyttleton and Alex Bellos. We also enjoyed taking part in some ‘Buddy Reading’ with Year 6 and loved experiencing some DEAR time (Drop Everything and Read) which gave us lots of opportunities to read for pleasure.
Spring 1
Misty Mountain, Winding Rivers
Pine have enjoyed learning about Claude Monet. They have had a go at creating their own impressionist version of ‘The Japanese Footbridge’ by using similar techniques to Claude Monet and thinking about the different tones they wanted to use.
Pine had fun on Number Day exploring several ‘Rabbit Problems’ based on the book, looking at links with the Fibonacci sequence and nature, competing in the TT Rock Stars competition and even playing some ‘6 and 7’ inspired darts!
Governor, Mr Potts came to speak to Year 4 about his mountain expedition to (6189m) Imja Tse (Island Peak) in the Himalayas, Nepal. He had heard that we had been learning about mountains and rivers in our geography topic and thought that we would enjoy hearing about one of his first-hand experiences of climbing a mountain. The interesting talk allowed us to recap on our knowledge about mountains and learn more about the dangers of mountain climbing and the area of Nepal.
We have been learning about Epiphany, and how the event is celebrated in France and Spain. A special cake, called the Gallete des Rois (King cake), is used in a fun game. The youngest person in each group got to choose who took a slice of cake. Whoever found a heart shaped charm in their piece was crowned King or Queen of the table!
