Roman Britain
In Computing, Year 4 explored how networks communicate with one another to form the internet.
We began by discussing how a single network uses a switch to transfer information between users. We then used wool to model how data can travel between different networks through switches and routers. This hands-on activity helped us understand how information moves across the internet.
We also discussed network safety, exploring what should and should not be allowed into a network to help keep users and their information safe.
Redwood class were incredibly lucky this week to have a special treat from Mr G, our lovely local ice cream man. It was a wonderful way to celebrate such a fantastic start to our school year and to create some special memories together. Thank you Mr G!!
Year 4 stepped back in time for an exciting day of Roman-themed activities and adventures!
After receiving a letter for Emperor Claudius inviting them to join his army of warriors, the children began their training by taking part in a Roman Boot Camp. They tackled a range of challenging activities, including long distance jumping, marching, spear throwing, chariot racing and trigon training, all designed to build their strength, stamina and Roman warrior skills.
Later in the morning, the children put their new developed skills to the test by practising Roman battle formations, including the ‘Orb’, ‘Wedge’ and ‘Testudo’. They worked brilliantly as a team and showed great determination as they learned how Roman soldiers fought together in battle.
In the afternoon, we visited Birchwood’s Roman Museum where the children had the opportunity to observe real Roman artefacts. Their curiosity and enthusiasm were fantastic as they asked questions and made observations, helping them to develop a deeper understanding of what life was like during Roman times.
It was a fun-filled and memorable day and Year 4 thoroughly enjoyed bringing their Roman learning to life!
