Roman Britain

In Computing, Year 4 explored how networks communicate with one another to form the internet.

We began by discussing how a single network uses a switch to transfer information between users. We then used wool to model how data can travel between different networks through switches and routers. This hands-on activity helped us understand how information moves across the internet.

We also discussed network safety, exploring what should and should not be allowed into a network to help keep users and their information safe.

Year 4 stepped back in time for an exciting day of Roman-themed activities and adventures!

To start the day we were excited to receive a letter for Emperor Claudius inviting us to join his army of warriors. He challenged us to begin our training in a Roman Boot Camp.  We practised marching, chariot racing, long distance jumping, spear throwing and the particularly challenging trigon training, activities designed to build our strength, stamina and Roman warrior skills.

We also had the opportunity of visiting Birchwood’s Roman Museum where we were able to examine real Roman artefacts.  We asked lots of questions and made observations, helping us to develop a deeper understanding of what life was like during Roman times.

To finish of our action-packed day, we tested out a Roman battle formation called the 'Testudo' (the tortoise).  We had to work as a team so we could replicate how Roman soldiers fought together in battle.

We are certain that Emperor Claudius will be very impressed with our knowledge and skill!
