Summer 1

The Sights and Sounds of Africa

Reception have been going quackers over our latest visitors.

Last week we were super eggcited to receive a special delivery of duck eggs.  We only had to wait a couple of days until the ducklings delighted us with their appearance.  We were able to move them from their incubator to their special cage once they were dry and fluffy.

We have been learning how to care for them and have loved watching them grow. This week we even helped them learn to swim.  The ducklings quickly took to the water and had fun jumping in and diving about.

It has been the most incredible experience and one we won’t forget.

This week the children in Reception have been thinking about healthy eating. We went to our Food Technology Room where we had the opportunity to make our very own fruit kebab. We used the bridge cutting technique to chop banana and strawberries to put on our skewer. We then added pear, apple and pineapple. We loved the different fruity smells and spoke about the texture of the different fruit, the apple was tricky to push onto the skewer! The most exciting moment of all then came when we got to taste our fruit kebab. The children enjoyed the crunchy pear and apple, soft banana, juicy pineapple and sweet strawberry!

This half term the children are exploring the story of Jack and the Beanstalk through Talk 4 Writing. It's been a really interesting week meeting The Giant and Jack and trying to decide who is the villain in this story? The children have completely engaged with this text and are avidly helping the Giant to become friends with Jack and overcome their difficulties. This has led to beautiful caption and sentence work.

Chestnut class have been enjoying learning all about Africa this week. We got creative in the painting area making African inspired masks. The children did really well painting and decorating them.

During Summer 1, Reception children will be learning all about the sights and sounds of Africa. They will be immersed in wonder of this cultural masterpiece of a continent. From the nature, landscape to the music and even their crafts it's a wonderful learning adventure for all. Here we have a small selection of the beautiful learning taking place.
