Darwin’s Delight

Year 6 enjoyed joining an online workshop with Frank Cotterell-Boyce today! As part of this, we also spent 10 minutes enjoying our books in an attempt to set an official Guinness World Record title for the most people reading online within 12 hours.

Year 6 have been learning about seasonal fruits and vegetables this week in DT, and how eating fruits and vegetables that are grown in the UK can be much better for the environment. With this knowledge, using the apples and pears that have been harvested in our school orchard, we have made a delicious apple and pear crumble. This required us using our skills to peel and chop the fruit safely.

On Monday Year 6 spent the day at Twycross Zoo where they took part in a fascinating adaptation and evolution workshop to support the learning they have been doing in science this half term. The children were able to extend their learning by looking at how animals have adapted in order to survive and the different reasons for this. The children were also able to then explore the zoo itself and see how different species differ from each other. The children loved being able to see the range of animals at the zoo and all the ways they are well adapted to their habitats. It really helped to bring their learning from the classroom to life and made them think about how humans and animals might adapt further in the future.
