Everyday Materials
We have been testing materials to see if they are waterproof. We have decided we need some waterproofing to our dog bed in case the dog has an accident. Very sensible Hazel, what a good idea.
We have been testing materials this week to see which would be best for making a dog bed. We are looking for materials that are soft, comfortable and waterproof.
In Maths today we have been learning about parts and the whole. We know a part and a part make a whole, I asked them to show me using double sided counters.
We have had a very busy afternoon getting our pots ready! We filled the pots with cardboard and soil and planted some bulbs, we are very excited to watch them over the coming months, and hopefully in spring we’ll have some flowers appearing!
I wonder if you will notice our new pots by the classroom doors!
Last week we practiced the impasto technique and this week we put it into practice creating our own versions of Starry Night by Vincent Van Gough.
We have been on an autumn walk around our school grounds. The children were asked to look at the leaves and their colours. Were they on the trees or on the floor? Could we spot any mini beasts or insects, animals or birds? Were there any flowers or seeds and what clothing did we need at this time of year? This is what we found and it was warm enough for just t-shirts as it was a very warm afternoon!
We have been recapping our numbers to ten, finding one more and one less than. Today we used a die to help us choose a number, we then added one more and one less to the number we landed on.
We have been using our sounds to carefully spell some of the nouns in the traditional story we are reading! We even got to use the teacher’s board!
We’ve been incredibly lucky this week to have a special treat from Mr G, our lovely local ice cream van! Everybody enjoyed an ice cream, and as you can see from the smiles, we all absolutely loved it! A huge thank you to Mr G for making our week that little bit sweeter.

Mr Bailey has visited us in school to make sure we start the year right by knowing how to stay safe online. We had a wonderful time discussing and learning all about how to keep safe on a range of devices and what to do if we ever felt unsafe.
It's the beginning of a new school year and the children who have come up from Reception to Year 1 have blown us away with their excitement and attitude to learning. Here are a few photos of them hard at work today. We all agree, Year 1 is a great place to be!
